I am one of the many Cook Islanders trying to trace my genealogy, culture and history! Been on the net six hours alone today.
Can you point me in the right direction as to how i may be able to find this information.. I am coming home to Rarotonga in January and would love to meet my descendants, learn about where I come from and connect with my family. Unfortunately my family over here are disfunctional and i dont realy see them. I have tried seeking their help but am getting no where.My great grandfather was Tuakana Taiki Papae, apparently from Puaikura.
Too many of us here in New Zealand dont know our roots!
I want to teach my son about our culture and give him a sense of pride.
Angela, When you come in January, contact Rebecca Hosking-Ellis. She could point you in the right direction if you tell her all you know of your family. Tinomana Ariki, the high chief of Puaikura, has asked Rebecca (her daughter) to do these things for her.
You can contact Rebecca either at the Central Police Station (she is an officer there) or at home at Tinomana Ariki’s palace in Puaikura.
