The Cook Islands Research Association supports and promotes a wide range of research about the Cook Islands and Cook Islanders everywhere.

CIRA is a non-government organization with no political, religious or other affiliations.

The logo was designed by renowned Cook Islands artist Mahiriki Tangaroa.

Its three elements are:

  • tavake: twin-tailed tropic bird symbolizing the natural heritage
  • vaka: voyaging canoe symbolizing the cultural heritage
  • 15 stars in a circle from the national flag symbolizing the nation, its people, economy, polity, history, culture and society
